Turning Red

Confident 13-year-old Meilin Lee is constantly watched over by her overprotective mother, which quickly upsets Mei. Things become problematic when Mei turns into a red panda whenever she feels strong emotions. She learns that this is a spell that has afflicted the women of her Chinese-Canadian family for many generations. However, with a ritual performed during a red moon, one can banish the red panda into an object forever.

In addition to this event, Mei and her three friends are also excited about the concert of the well-known boy band 4*Town in Toronto. Contrary to her mother's wishes to keep the panda secret until the ritual and banish it forever, Mei soon uses him to earn money for the concert. When this is discovered and the rest of her female relatives arrive in Toronto, Mei is faced with some difficult decisions. She decides to cancel the ritual and can get into the concert arena with a big jump. However, her mother is so enraged that she turns into a giant monster and destroys parts of the arena. Mei Lee's family can activate the ritual again, including the boy band, to banish the giant monster. Mei and her mother meet on the astral plane, and Mei gets to keep her panda. Ultimately, as a red panda, she is a crowd puller in the city and together they collect money to repair the stadium.
